Picture Perfect: How Photographers and Stationers Collaborate to Capture and Create Timeless Weddings

Filed in Vendor Discussions — March 26, 2025

Your wedding day is a story—one filled with emotion, beauty, and countless details that deserve to be remembered. While the photographer captures these precious moments, the stationery sets the tone for the day with custom paper goods that tell your love story. To show how this collaboration benefits couples, we spoke with Amanda, a talented wedding photographer, about how stationers and photographers work together to create seamless and unforgettable weddings.

Meet Amanda:

The Storyteller Behind the Lens

Can you tell us about yourself and your journey into wedding photography?

I have had a passion for photography and capturing memories from a young age. I remember getting my first point and shoot film camera in elementary school and I would take that thing everywhere! In college I had expressed my interest in photography to my then fiancé and he bought me my first real camera as a Christmas present. We were broke college students so him believing in my dreams and buying that for me meant so much and truly speaks to who he is in my life. Needless to say we are happily married and he is still my biggest supporter almost 9 years later! Anyhow that year my sister also got engaged and flew me out to San Diego to photograph her engagement photos. I had zero experience and didn’t really know what I was doing but it lit a fire in me and inspired me in a way no other hobby/job had done before. Being in college I had several other couples I knew getting married who hired me to photograph their weddings the next year. I dove head first into online courses and teaching myself all the technical aspects of photography before shooting my first hired wedding. Those first weddings were so special to me and pointed me in the direction of my dream job. From there it spiraled into booking more and more weddings and investing and teaching myself everything I could. 3 years later I went full time and here I am 8 years in so full of gratitude for this passion I get to call my job and the countless sweet couples who entrust me with documenting their once in a lifetime memories!

What inspires your photography style, and how do you approach capturing each couple’s unique story?

“I describe my style as a light and bright, film inspired look. Elegant, joyful, genuine. My goal is to serve my couples providing a comfortable and fun experience and leaving them with images that allow them to re-live their whole day over every time they look at their photos. I take a lot of pride in getting to know my couples and their vision so that I can effectively tell their unique love story through my lens.”

The Role of Photography in Wedding Design

How do you ensure that your photography captures the overall aesthetic and details of a wedding day?

“I always send out a very in depth questionnaire to my couples so that I can get the full picture of their overall aesthetic, important details, etc. of their wedding. I use that as a road map going into capturing wedding days in a way that is unique to each couple.”

Why do you believe details like stationery are important for wedding photography?

“Stationary and custom paper goods set the tone for the whole day! I always start each wedding day with flat lays capturing all the pretty details like the invitation suite, jewelry, shoes, etc. These details photos start the gallery out setting the stage for the rest to come. Then things like the custom programs, menus, place cards, etc. all help create a cohesive gallery telling the story and vibe of the day.”

How Photographers and Stationers Collaborate

What details or insights from a stationer help you prepare for capturing flat lays or styled shots?

“The colors, patterns, and vibes presented in the stationers work dictates how I design the flat lays. Like what color ribbon I use, ring boxes, etc to bring it all together.”

Have you ever had a moment where the stationery inspired or enhanced your photography? Can you share an example?

“Absolutely! One wedding in particular that comes to mind, the Stationer designed a custom monogram that was cohesively used all throughout the wedding from the invitation suite, the signage, the large display on the beverage cart and bar, the and menus. Truly it brought it all together cohesively and set the stage for how I captured the day.”

The Benefits for Couples

How does collaboration between a stationer and a photographer elevate the client’s experience?

“Both vendors are so important for helping tell the story of the day. Having a strong partnership between the two will successfully bring to life the vision the client has worked so very hard on in planning for their special day.”

Can you share an example where a strong partnership with a stationer made a significant impact on the wedding photos?

“Going back to the same wedding I referenced before, I just loved collaborating to bring the couples vision to life. The stationer was amazing with providing additional invitation suites and so many beautiful details. Truly all her beautiful designs made such a big impact on the cohesiveness and beauty of the final gallery!”

Workflow and Communication

What are some best practices for ensuring that the stationery elements are beautifully incorporated into photos?

“I always recommend providing the photographer with an invitation suite and any important custom paper goods at the start of wedding coverage for detail photos. If possible, it’s also very helpful to mail your photographer an invitation ahead of the wedding day so that they can take some photos of it in advance and be full prepared knowing the vibe for the day.”

Are there specific moments or shots where stationery plays a crucial role, such as invitation suites or table settings?

“Stationary is crucial for flat lays of course. They also are super important for table settings, ceremony detail photos, and reception detail photos.”

Trends and Expert Advice

What trends are you seeing in wedding photography that highlight the importance of stationery?

“I’ve been loving the trend of more candid flat lays and late night flat lays, both of which feature beautiful stationary and custom paper goods!”

How can couples use stationery to create visually stunning moments for their wedding album?

“Stationary is largely featured in flat lays and detail photos. These photos start every single gallery I send and starts the wedding album off with stunning details that set the tone for what is to follow.”

A Seamless Partnership for Timeless Memories

If a couple is debating whether to hire a stationer and/or a photographer, what would you say to convince them of the value both bring?

“I would say a stationer is so important to bring to life your vision for the pretty little details that tell the story of your day. And your photographer is so important to capture those pretty little details and document your special memories. Both are necessary parts to tell your love story and all the beautiful details that deserve to be remembered!”
