Purple and Blue Wedding Theme at The Wellspring

Filed in Weddings — September 17, 2026

Besides choosing your date and your venue, choosing a wedding color theme is usually one of the first steps you’ll take after getting engaged. A color theme guides all of your design choices, including your invitations, florals, outfits, table decor, and more. As a wedding invitation designer, I know just how overwhelmed couples can feel when trying to select their colors.

That’s why several other Ohio wedding vendors and I teamed up to show you what one of our favorite color combos–purple and blue–can look like for a summer wedding. We’re sharing it all: invitations, cake, florals, tablescape, and more. You won’t want to miss this wedding at The Wellspring.

If you’re thinking about choosing a purple and blue wedding theme, keep reading to get inspired to bring yours to life!

Do Blue and Purple Go Together for a Wedding?

In recent years, the wedding industry has seen several color palettes steal the show. Chartreuse, mushroom brown, black & white, and white & green have been some of the most popular choices. So, you may be wondering whether or not a purple and blue palette is a good choice for your wedding.

Blue and purple make a gorgeous color combination for weddings. They are analogous colors, which means they sit next to each other on the color wheel. In essence, they’re naturally harmonious with each other.

The shades of purple and blue that you choose will depend on several factors:

  • Season
  • Venue
  • Formality
  • Personal preference

For example, royal blue and deep purple feel bold and dramatic. Navy blue and purple feel elegant and formal. And, as is the case with this summer wedding, light blue and lavender can make your wedding feel refined and romantic.

Purple and Blue Wedding Invitations to Set the Tone

Your invitations give your guests their first glimpse of your wedding, so they’re the perfect place to introduce your colors. This summer wedding at The Wellspring was both whimsical and romantic. The main color palette included light powder blue and lavender with greenery accents.

To tie the invitations into the color scheme, I incorporated all three colors throughout the suite. The main invitation card featured a custom greenery monogram, giving a nod to the garden-inspired feel of the day. The envelopes brought pops of lavender and blue. And a light purple ribbon tied the entire suite together.

When your invitations reflect your colors from the start, the rest of your day feels like it belongs to the same story.

Purple and Blue Wedding Reception

Purple and blue can go in so many directions, and the shades you choose set the whole mood. For a summer wedding like this one, we leaned into the lighter end of the palette. Together, soft lavender and powder blue look airy and romantic, which is exactly the mood you want when your reception is taking place in a bright, open space like The Wellspring.

The greenery, designed by Revery Rentals, is what took the reception from romantic to fully whimsical. Trailing vines and fresh foliage gave the tables that garden-in-bloom look that was both natural and a little untamed. If you love an organic, romantic look, greenery is one of the easiest ways to get there.

Finally, the best part of a palette is carrying it beyond the florals. I also designed menus and place cards to coordinate with the invitations. The same greenery monogram and fonts appeared again, reminding guests that every detail was intentional.

Shades of purple and light blue adorned the tables, popping against creamy neutrals.

The groom’s navy blue suit was a perfect fit for this color palette, providing contrast against the light florals.
